It seems to be human nature that we are never satisfied with what we have and are always looking around for something which we perceive to be better. Based on this premise there are so many sayings and proverbs around that we now use them in everyday language. You will find people saying things such as “count your blessings”, “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush”, “the grass is always greener on the other side”, and the evergreen “being green with envy”.

All of these point to the same thing; that we should try to make the most of what we have. This is true in all aspects of life and these days, it also applies to our bodies and our appearance in general. We spent so much time and money trying to achieve things that we know are temporary and will only make us look good for a while. The rising popularity of cosmetic surgery shows the way that we wish to alter our appearance to such extents. One of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures is the breast augmentation. Somehow, the nest most popular surgery is not the opposite, since there are fewer women who wish to reduce their chest size.

For many centuries, women have been trying to make the most of the assets that they have been endowed with. Even here, technology has advanced so that the horror stories of implants exploding in the air during a flight are now a thing of the distant past.

The way that we feel about ourselves and our bodies is tied into the way that we look and the way that we think others see us. This is why, although some women do have a breast reduction to please their partners, the majority of these procedures are done because the woman wishes to feel better about her body. It may be that she was teased as being a late developer at school; it may be that she does not feel feminine enough or it may be that she wishes to have a different silhouette in the clothes that she chooses to wear.
